Councillor William (Bill) McCue is a long‑serving leader of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation, known for his decades of commitment to strong governance, economic development, and the advancement of First Nation jurisdiction.
 
Bill began his career with the First Nation in 1974 and has held several key roles over more than five decades of service. This includes serving as Chief of the Chippewas of Georgina Island from 1993 to March 31, 2005, after which he transitioned into his long-standing role as Councillor, a position he continues to hold today. 
 
 
During his tenure as Chief, Bill played a historic role as an original signatory to the Framework Agreement on First Nations Land Management, with Georgina Island becoming the first community in Canada to vote for and ratify a Land Code in 1997, moving out from restrictive provisions of the Indian Act and pioneering the land management movement nationally.

Throughout his leadership, Bill has been a strong advocate for economic self‑sufficiency, local infrastructure development, and environmental protection—priorities that continue to shape the growth and sustainability of Georgina Island First Nation. His work has helped advance community‑based economic initiatives, expand local job opportunities, and strengthen the Nation’s control over its lands and resources.
 
Bill McCue continues to serve with dedication, offering his extensive experience, deep community knowledge, and forward‑looking leadership to support the ongoing prosperity and self‑determination of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation.
