Mission Statement

The Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation exercise full authority for the governance and implementation of our education; embracing our culture and language, and ensuring superior academic standards for future generations.

We believe education:

  • Builds leaders and community members who are strong in body, mind and spirit
  • Is a lifelong learning process
  • Should prioritize the use of Anishinaabemowin
  • Should acknowledge the value of Traditional Knowledge Keepers
  • Includes land-based learning and traditional ways of knowing and being
  • Provides inquiry-rich learning that fosters development of appropriate tools and skills necessary for success
  • Embraces the tenets of the 7 Grandfather Teachings; Love, Respect, Humility, Truth, Bravery, Honesty, Wisdom 
  • Is the responsibility of the whole community; engagement promotes community
  • Must embrace the individuality of each learner
  • Provides pathways that lead to positive opportunities and success
